Thread: Dragon Disciple

    Dragon Disciple

I want to create a dragon based character, as it is right now i have to be sorc to get huge/large dragon transformation even as dragon disciple. Kinda wanted Eldritch Scion/Dragon Discple but then i only get Medium dragon. Anyone can tell me what the purpose of Dragon Disciple is when it doesnt seem to get dragon form or dragon wings? Is the extra str and natural armor worth it? And would a sorc/dragon disciple be viable as a melee oriented caster?

Dragon Disciple was designed as a Prestige Class for Sorcerers at first, even though it was open to a few other classes. So, Sorcerers get the most of it, even today in Pathfinder.

Dragon Disciple has definitely lost a lot of it's luster since Magus was released.

So both straight Magus, and a Sorc/DD (or ES/DD) would probably want to be a bad-touch caster (high damage spells that require you to make a touch attack), or a transmutation specialist (polymorphs, and stat buffs). Comparing the two; Magus would be more offence, DD gives more defense.

Honestly, regular Pathfinder guides translate very well to this game. You will only have to make minor adjustments for feats that aren't available in this release.

Can you explain what you mean when you say it doesn't get dragon form or dragon wings? Doesn't it get Wings at 9th level, form of the dragon I at 7th, and form of the dragon II at 10th?

Well, i havnt played Pathfinder pnp, only read the classes decription online where it said it would get dragon form and wings. Now it could simply be that the Dragon Disciple class isnt finalized ingame and if thats the case the class will be better i guess. But using save editor to level up to 20 just to test things out for what build i should use the only thing i got from Dragon Disciple was lots of str and natural armor which isnt bad, but not really sure its worth multi classing for. Dragon transforming itself was given through spells like normal magus/sorc stuff and not through DD traits.

Blood of Dragons: A dragon disciple adds his level to his sorcerer levels when determining the powers gained from his bloodline. If the dragon disciple does not have levels of sorcerer, he instead gains bloodline powers of the draconic bloodline, using his dragon disciple level as his sorcerer level to determine the bonuses gained. He must choose a dragon type upon gaining his first level in this class and that type must be the same as his sorcerer type. This ability does not grant bonus spells to a sorcerer unless he possesses spell slots of an appropriate level. Such bonus spells are automatically granted if the sorcerer gains spell slots of the spell’s level.

Spells per Day: At the indicated levels, a dragon disciple gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in an arcane spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if he is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a dragon disciple, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Bloodline Feat: Upon reaching 2nd level, and every three levels thereafter, a dragon disciple receives one bonus feat, chosen from the draconic bloodline’s bonus feat list (see page 75).

But none of those are special loki, Blood just makes you continue get the spells you would have gotten anyway from sorc/magus, same with Spells. The bloodline feat are just normal feats that others can pick aswell, there is no unqiue feats in the bloodline feat list. Which is why i asked if its worth to pick it up for +4 str and +3-4 natural armor.

Wow, if that's true, they are missing some of the higher-level abilities of dragon disciple. At level 7, DD should get 1/day dragon shape 1, and at 10 that should turn into 2/day dragon shape 2. And those should be separate from the sorcerer spells; you should get them even if you go into DD as a bard. And they should get wings at level 9.

My guess is that, since those are such high-level abilities, they just haven't implemented them yet in the beta and those will be in for release.

They said they were going to do something cool with wings, to replace flying. I think they are leaning toward a speed boost and/or immunity to difficult terrain. But they had also mentioned a teleport as a possibility, which I would love.
