How do people know when there are new Acts?

I see posters refer to different Acts all the time, how can we tell what Act we're in? I didn't do Beta or Alpha by the way and was curious.

    Thanks

I think it's based mostly off of the splashscreens you get when big story events happen/end.

They're based off the six main quest arcs. This comes from the original Pathfinder AP, which was divided into six separate books, or acts. You can define most of the acts by where they take place and who the arc villain is, which I'll include in different spoilered sections below so you can see how far along you are.

Act 1: The Shrike - The Stag Lord
    Act 2:

As a tangent, what happens at the end of the game? does it end and you can't play anymore or can you still side quest and kingdom develop?

    There is a Chapter 7.

It's also the dumbest most frustrating thing ever and insanely buggy. So... that's a thing.
Don't hurry to get to it.

When you finish the game, the game ends.
Storybook ending which 'wraps up' all the questlines that may or may not have been bugged out of existence when I completed it.

    No more kingdom development
    no more questing
